Collision in Vietnam causes damage to two boxships
The 2,038 TEU WAN HAI 288 Singaporean vessel and the 920 TEU RESURGENCE Bahamian vessel have collided in the Long Tau river in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), southern Vietnam, leaving both vessels damaged.
The accident occurred on 11 February.
The RESURGENCE crashed into the port bow of the WAN HAI 288, which resulted in damage to both vessels, including a number of boxes from the WAN HAI 288 vessel being destroyed.
According to reports, the vessel underwent inspection operations after travelling to Cat Lai Terminal in HCMC following the accident.
Reports also stated that following the collision, the WAN HAI 288 briefly grounded before being towed away to a nearby yard.
The WAN HAI 288 was travelling towards a port in HCMC while carrying around 1,383 containers, before colliding into the RESURGENCE which came coming from the opposite direction carrying over 600 containers.
While several containers were damaged, there were no casualties, nor was there any oil spillage following the incident.
The accident happened almost six months after cargo ship, DAMGRACHT, collided with Croatian bulk carrier, AP REVELIN, in Port Arthur waters, Texas, leaving both vessels damaged.
