OOCL unveils second 16,828 TEU container vessel
Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) has unveiled a brand new 16,828 TEU container vessel, the ‘OOCL Iris’.
This vessel is the second of 10 new 16,000 TEU containerships ordered by OOCL and is the first to be delivered by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS).
The term “Iris” alludes to both a flower and OOCL’s in-house IT system, the Integrated Regional Information System, which the firm takes great pride in.
It was introduced in 1999 as a pioneering invention, integrating the business processes of all OOCL offices globally, merging client shipments and financial information into a single system, and changing the company’s operations.
According to OOCL, this system has been a crucial feature in its capacity to traverse problems throughout the years.
The OOCL Iris, along with her sister vessels, uses an integrated platform for efficient data collecting, storage, and transmission.
These vessels have an innovative energy efficiency system that makes recommendations for speed optimisation and trim modifications.
The system analyses real-time fuel use and power consumption of the main engine, generator, and boiler, making significant improvement recommendations.
OOCL Iris was named and blessed by Lily Wan, wife of Eric Wang, Board Director and Vice President of Midea Group, in front of numerous visitors, partners and consumers.
Weidong Tao, Chief Executive Officer of OOCL, said: “This series of new vessels achieves world-class standards in intelligent and environmentally friendly design, enhancing OOCL’s operational efficiency and reducing carbon emissions to meet customer and societal expectations for green shipping.
“This not only optimises OOCL’s fleet structure and upgrades its own fleet but also provides strong support for the sustainable and healthy development of global trade.”
The OOCL Iris will operate on the Trans-Pacific Trade ECX1 route.
The port rotation is a 91-day round voyage calling at:
Hong Kong – Yantian – Xiamen – Shanghai – New York – Savannah – Charleston – Laem Chabang – Cai Mep – Hong Kong.
One week ago, OOCL named its first brand new 16,828 TEU container vessel, the ‘OOCL Bauhinia’, at a ceremony at the Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (DACKS) shipyard.
