OOCL crowned best green shipping line
Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) has won the “2024 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards – Best Green Shipping Line” for the second time.
The ceremony, held in Shanghai on 25 June, celebrated OOCL’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
The award recognises OOCL’s achievements across several key criteria, including regulatory compliance, environmental standards, investment in green technologies, strategic planning, emission reduction policies, and continuous staff training.
Over the years, OOCL has spearheaded various environmental initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and enhancing operational efficiency. Initiatives such as long-standing bunker-saving programmes and the integration of AI in operations highlight OOCL’s proactive approach to sustainability. Furthermore, OOCL has made substantial investments in eco-friendly dual-fuel vessels.
Since 2008, OOCL has reduced its average carbon emissions per shipping unit by more than 53 per cent. In 2023, OOCL introduced an upgraded Emission Monitor to provide real-time carbon emission calculations for end-to-end shipments.
Commenting on the award win, Michael Xu, Director of Trades at OOCL, said: “We would like to thank Asia Cargo News, our customers and all other business partners for their support and recognition of OOCL.
“Moving forward, we will continue to advance our journey in green transition and fully support the industry moving towards Net Zero by 2050.”
OOCL’s overall revenue in the first quarter of 2024 fell 9 per cent year-on-year to $2 billion. Total liftings rose by 3.4 per cent, while loadable capacity grew by 2.2 per cent. The total load factor was 0.9 per cent greater than the same period in 2023.
