HAROPA Port and Verso Energy have signed an agreement for the installation of a plant to produce low-carbon hydrogen and synthetic fuels on HAROPA Port land in Grand-Quevilly.

This manufacturing factory will be built on property owned by HAROPA Port, Rouen, in the town of Grand-Quevilly, on the administrative border of Petit-Couronne.

The development project will reportedly contribute to the security and expansion of the local industrial environment.

The plant is expected to be operational by 2029.

The project aims to create hydrogen by water electrolysis and will have a capacity of 350 megawatts (MW), equating to an annual volume of more than 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen, in exchange for a €500 million ($545 million) investment.

According to HAROPA Port, it will be accompanied by a factory that will produce synthetic fuels from collected and recycled CO2, providing 150 direct and 250 indirect employment.

In May, the Port of Montreal and HAROPA Port announced the renewal of their first international cooperation agreement that took place six years prior.

Four months later, HAROPA Port announced it is developing the Port of Bruyères-sur-Oise to create a new multimodal platform, 40 kilometres from Paris.
